Interior Design Competition
The Art Meets Design Competition was a first-of-its-kind collaboration between Artterra, and Clavis Studio, presented as part of DesignTO 2024. This virtual challenge invited interior designers to flip the traditional process: instead of treating art as the final touch, they began with artworks from Artterra’s curated collection and built immersive spaces around them.
Using Clavis Studio’s 3D VR platform, participants designed fully realized virtual interiors where art wasn’t just décor, but the foundation of the space — shaping atmosphere, emotion, and function. This approach challenged designers to think differently about how art influences design, while offering audiences an opportunity to experience these creations in an immersive, interactive format.
The competition reached a wide community of designers, artists, and design enthusiasts, helping bring visibility and excitement to the project. Designers competed not only for recognition and prizes, but also for the chance to push the boundaries of what art and design can become when technology expands the possibilities of creative practice.
The response was remarkable, with entries that spanned aesthetics and moods — each space becoming both a personal vision and a dialogue with the artwork it housed. The winning design, created by Heather Fox, captured this spirit beautifully: a serene, coastal-inspired primary suite that embodied both artistry and ambiance, demonstrating the transformative power of designing from art outward.
The Art Meets Design Competition was more than a showcase of talent — it was a proof of concept for how technology, art, and design can converge to reimagine our living environments. It stands as the beginning of a series of explorations into how immersive tools can help reshape the way we experience creativity in both digital and physical spaces.
