Art of Renewal: Documentary Series
Hosted by Parisa Golchoubian, directed by Kelsey Blake, and produced by Lucky One Projects, this international short documentary series follows Parisa’s nomadic journey across the globe, weaving together the voices of artists who use creativity as a response to the environmental crises of our time.
As both host and artist, Parisa doesn’t just document these stories; she creates alongside the communities she visits, entering into dialogue and collaboration that reveal how art connects across borders. Each encounter becomes a shared act of making, a testament to the power of creativity as both witness and catalyst.
The series moves through Oaxaca, where traditional printmaking becomes a form of resistance against water scarcity and extractive industries; to Colombia, where muralists and designers confront fast fashion, and the lingering scars of conflict; to Canada, where Indigenous knowledge and contemporary practices converge to explore snow, soil, and the shifting realities of climate change; and to Bali, where spiritual ecology and ritual offer pathways for healing and renewal.
Across these landscapes, Parisa encounters a spectrum of artistic activism — from quiet, poetic gestures that shift perception to bold, disruptive interventions that demand immediate attention. The camera bears witness not just to the finished works but to the processes, collaborations, and communities that give them life.
At its heart, Art of Renewal is about the transformative power of creativity. It is a meditation on how art can serve as activism, healing, storytelling, and resistance — reminding us that culture has always been a force for collective survival and renewal. By showcasing diverse artists and practices, the series reveals that there is no single way to respond to crisis, but many — and that every act of creation, whether subtle or radical, carries the potential to move us closer to change.
