Sophia Yeh-Chau
Artist Sophia Yeh-Chau paints expressional abstract fused with elements of realism using a wide array of medium such as watercolour, inks and acrylic. Tranquil paint washes are juxtaposed with movement, highly infused layers and texture. She invites the viewer into the scene where she hopes to leave them lost in their own story.
"I will often paint in plein air and transfer the small sketch like paintings into larger pieces. This practice allows me to take in the scene, exploring elements such as sounds, smells and visuals."
An avid traveler, Sophia will fill travel journals with glimpses of everyday scenes. These are treasured memories where for a moment of time all the vivid impressions of that scene come rushing back.
Born in Sweden, Sophia finished her art studies before immigrating to Canada. She is a graduate of OCAD-U and works out of her studio in Unionville. Her work can be found in private collections and galleries in Ontario.
