Claudia Wiebe
Claudia Wiebe is a self-taught mixed-media artist originally from Germany, who has been living in Canada for over 30 years. Her home and studio are located in Coquitlam, BC, where she intuitively creates abstract art using acrylic paints.
Claudia's artwork reflects her life experiences, which encompass a variety of roles, including pediatric nurse, caregiver, mother, wife, teacher, mentor, and artist. Having faced many challenges in her life, Claudia has learned to be open to new opportunities, and she is drawn to the expressive and healing components of art.
Through her art, Claudia communicates the complexities of love and loss, joy and grief, and the layers of life that shape and define us. Her paintings are characterized by vibrant colors, bold brushwork, and marks that reflect a personal and dynamic representation of her experiences.
Claudia often begins her creative process with just a word, a sentence, a fragment of a poem, a thought, or an emotion, and from the very first marks on a canvas, new perspectives unfold. Each painting takes shape by adding many layers of paint, making marks, and creating texture. It is that constant adding and taking away that allows the 'story' to slowly emerge.
For Claudia, painting feels like a continuous dance, and she embraces the unpredictable while never abandoning her intuition. She hopes to evoke an emotional response or a memory in the viewer, leaving lots of room for their own imagination and interpretation.
Claudia's wish is that each piece touches someone deeply, and she knows that she has fulfilled this goal when her art resonates with them and sparks their soul. Through her art, Claudia invites us to embrace all the layers of life and find beauty in our experiences, no matter how painful or joyful they may be.
