About the Artist

Born, raised and living in Toronto, Melodie has received her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) at York University, majoring in painting. After a hiatus, she has returned to her love of painting and in so doing, discovered a passion for watercolour painting.

She enjoys the fluidity and organic flow of watercolour painting with its soft surprises. The water is the conduit that flows where the brush and other tools lead and push it. Or it can take a life on its own, moving freely across the paper. She draws inspiration from nature to create semi-abstract paintings. She looks for patterns in nature, particularly in water, rocks and trees that are translated into textures, shapes, and tones in her art. She views her art as an abstract representation.

Sometimes paintings pop from her imagination of a memory. Sometimes a photo or another artist will serve as inspiration. Sometimes paintings freely reveal themselves while being painted. Sometimes paintings are planned but the medium changes the outcome. No painting is the same.

"As a self-taught watercolourist, I enjoy experimenting and discovering new techniques in the medium. Reflecting, being immersed in the process of painting, is part of the creative journey."
