Dreams are ethereal, floating on the surface of the river of subconsciousness. They are memories of the past, reflections of the present, and hopes for the future. Without dreams hopes are lost, and fears are overwhelming. Dreams are given to be cherished.
In this series of works, rough textured pastel-hued canvases are juxtaposed with soft pearly shimmering layers of silk objects. Objects that carry the soothing and elusive nature of dreams over the routined patterns of lives' canvases.

About the Artist
Maria Shanina is a designer and artist, creating out of her studio in Ottawa, Ontario, where she works with textiles and mixed media. Maria creates delicate contemporary textile works by painting directly on silk and then carefully and meticulously disassembling her paintings to create new compositions. Captivated by the ancient oriental art of silk painting, Maria explores ways of balancing the expressiveness of flowing paint and minimalist design.
