THE ARTIST'S STORY

Melodie Mui

Melodie enjoys the fluidity and organic flow of watercolour painting with its often surprises. The water is the conduit that flows where the brush and other tools lead and push it. Or it can take a life on its own, moving freely across the paper.

She draws inspiration from nature to create semi-abstract paintings. Melodie looks for patterns in nature, particularly in water, rocks and trees that are translated into textures, shapes, and tones in my art. She views her art as abstract representation.
Sometimes paintings pop from her imagination from a memory. Sometimes a photo or another artist will serve as inspiration. Sometimes paintings freely reveal themselves while being painted. Sometimes paintings are planned but the medium changes the outcome. No painting is the same.

As a self-taught watercolourist, Melodie enjoys experimenting and discovering new techniques in the medium. Reflecting, being immersed in the process of painting, is part of her creative journey. Painting is an intuitive experience that allows her imagination to roam.
