"As an interior designer, I'm always on the hunt for unique pieces that breathe life into spaces. Artterra's curated collection never disappoints. Each piece is a conversation starter, and their commitment to originality is unmatched. A designer's dream destination." — Amelia L.

Every hand-produced print is an original artwork, created using traditional photographic printing techniques. Jo's collections are inspired by botanicals, foraged on her rural property in Ontario.

The prints are created using a cameraless technique called a photogram. The photogram is a 'contact print' process, with objects placed directly onto the surface of light-sensitive materials, and then developed.

THE ARTIST'S STORY

Florigin

Jo Thomson is an experimental photographer and photoartist based in Mono, ON who specializes in creating unique art prints using foraged botanicals and traditional photographic processes. Under the brand name Florigin, Jo works with two processes: the Photogram, created in a traditional darkroom, and the Cyanotype, created by exposure to the sun. Jo's work has a direct relationship with the subject matter, as both processes use the ‘contact’ method, whereby objects are placed directly onto the photographic materials before exposure, resulting in prints that are unique and original.

Jo completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree at the London College of Arts (UK) and has since been active in the commercial creative industries, working as both a freelance commercial & social photographer and as a director of their Design & Branding Studio, Believe in. However, Florigin was born out of Jo's strong desire to return to their roots of traditional printing and to be creative without the constraints of a client brief.

Jo's ultimate aim is to elevate ordinary objects into things of beauty. Their recent client expressed the sentiment perfectly when she said that looking at Jo's work makes her feel calm and focused on nature and on only the important things in life. Jo takes great satisfaction in knowing that their work brings joy to others, and delights in seeing their pieces displayed in others' environments. Jo continues to explore their passion for slow, analogue processes and encourages others to follow their passions in life without fear.
