THE ARTIST'S STORY

Jazz Danis

Jazz Aline is a Canadian multi-disciplinary artist from Treaty 1. She creates and explores what it means to be re-imagined into the land. Imbued with meaning and symbolism the work dances in its simple details and intentional placements. Inspired by folk arts, story tales, and surrealism she weaves together stories of the past, present, and future through observation of her own life to create an experience that blends the old with the new. She works primarily with gouache paint, digital artwork, and fabrics. Despite those very different mediums, her style and storytelling carry through beautifully from painting to embroidery.

‘‘I often imagine myself on the great endless, frozen plains of Lake Winnipeg, the wind howling-everything blanketed in white. That's my canvas. A place of emotional violence, beauty and solace. A place where I re-imagine us, in the land, that’s what my art is all about." -Jazz Aline
