THE ARTIST'S STORY

Sophia Yeh-Chau

Sophie is an artist and designer based in Unionville ON. Born in a small fishing town on the Swedish west coast she was greatly influenced by the natural landscape. The exploration of form and colour, evident in her early watercolour paintings and clay sculptures, her passion for the arts started early. Shortly after completing a fine arts program in high-school she immigrated to Toronto, Canada. Sophie continued her studies specializing in design at OCAD University.

“I use my art as a mode to communicate. Shapes and colours play an important role in storytelling as it sets the mood and evokes a response in the viewer”.
– Sophie

Sophie paints abstract and realism and on rare occasions she will combine the styles. In recent years while travelling through Ontario, the beautiful landscape has become a source of inspiration. Tranquil moments are juxtaposed with movement and highly infused layers, where she hopes to leave the audience lost in their own story, the piece is merely a departure point of an adventure that is yet to be discovered.

Sophie’s work has been shown in galleries such as McKay Gallery, Westland Gallery, Kelfi Gallery and will soon be featured in the Pi Art Squared show.
