"As an interior designer, I'm always on the hunt for unique pieces that breathe life into spaces. Artterra's curated collection never disappoints. Each piece is a conversation starter, and their commitment to originality is unmatched. A designer's dream destination." — Amelia L.

An extension of the bodymaps drawing practice, this series of 3 vinyl tiles utilizes found material in all its rough charm and unique marks created by time.

The bodymaps series aims to capture nuances of physical sensations when the body is in complete stillness. This varies in visual expression from more figurative to quite abstract and graphic, as in these instances.

Each stroke of brush or crayon is a conversation with these sensations. The white bold elements function as p for the body, while the finer lines and colour areas seek to capture sensations happening at the time of drawing and p them in relation to the mass of the graphic element/body.

Finding the right balance of staying true to the experience while drawing, while at the same time creating a piece of compelling visual art is one of the things most intriguing to me within this practice.

THE ARTIST'S STORY

Liz Wurzinger

The thematic focus of Liz's current practice lies on the body and its subtle and nuanced ways of communicating. She explores mark-making as a tool to capture the quiet sensations that lie in-between the loud murmurs and pain (which tends to be the only time we become aware of our physique) and is fascinated by these constant subtle tinglings of nerve ends that makes up our physical awareness. Each drawing is a transcript of a conversation with these sensations.

Liz's overall work ranges from abstract drawing practices and graphic design, to writing, and installation. Her preferred materials are of natural matter, as they are inclined to tell stories of their own, which tends to make for interesting conversations between medium and paint. Materials include wood, paper, fabric, skin, found or repurposed objects (as seen in the vinyl tiles series), and others.

Liz grew up in the town of Laa/Thaya on the Austrian-Czech border and currently lives on the traditional and unceded territories of the Coast Salish Nations, Vancouver, Canada. She holds a BA in Graphic and Media Design from New Design University in St.Pölten, Austria. Liz thrives in silence and intimate collaborations and finds inspiration in learning with and from her three-year-old daughter. To find out more about her work, visit www.lizwurzinger.com
