THE ARTIST'S STORY

Krista Powers

Krista Powers is a Multidisciplinary Visual Artist with 6 National Accreditations in Canadian Professional Photography in the genres of Fine Art/Photo Decor, Botanical, Ornithology/Birds, Nature, Fantasy Illustration, and Pictorial Scenic.  She has also participated as a judge on panels for both Regional and National photographic competitions, as well as competing and winning several awards with her own photography work. Although she is most known in her local area for her award-winning photographic works she is also a passionate Abstract Mixed Media Artist.
As an artist who lives with invisible disabilities, art has become a healer for Krista. For this reason, bringing awareness and acceptance for people living with invisible illnesses is important to her work as an artist. Krista is primarily an intuitive artist and her creative process is one of embracing healing and connection to the present moment. She will often begin creating with a practice of meditation to still the mind. Every piece is made with a spirit of rhythm and flow, and in this way creating is not only healing for the artist but also injects a positive energetic influence into the artwork itself.
Krista has always been a highly creative person since she was a small child. Her philosophy of ‘art as a healer' influences what inspires her art, as she sees art as a journey of bringing aspects of the artist’s soul and life experiences, and even subconscious out into the world and onto the canvas. Krista will often create with a variety of mediums including: found and recycled objects, acrylics, cold wax, textiles, inks, collage, epoxy, charcoal, and pastels. Krista considers herself a lifelong learner and has a keen interest in the human sciences and spirituality. She is always looking to expand her skills and grow as an artist.
