The Bumble Bee
by Dao Donjerm
In Canada, three species of native bumble bees are declining and are now endangered because of habitat loss, climate change, and the spread of diseases from commercial bees. Without these bees, we risk losing the pollination services they provide for our crops.
These hand-embroidered earrings are a way for you to help protect these bees while looking stylish! A portion of the sales will be donated to Bee City Canada, an organization working to raise awareness about the importance of bees and how we can help them thrive in our communities.
Size: 1 inch round
Medium: hand-embroidered with cotton floss, using stainless steel base
About the Artist
I'm Dao, a self-taught embroiderer living in beautiful Vancouver, BC. I initially learned my crafting skills from my mom. She taught me sewing, crochet and macrame. As time went on I began experimenting with embroidery and found a way to implement all of my creative skills into my embroidery.
In 2017 I started my own youtube channel making DIY videos and it soon morphed into a platform to showcase my budding interest in embroidery. I started with ribbon embroidery combined with tutorials on making handbags, wallets and various articles of clothing with ribbon embroidery on them. In 2018 I began making wearable art in the form of hand-embroidered jewelry, such as earrings, rings, pendants and bracelets and sold them on Facebook. In 2021 I moved to Canada with my husband and shortly thereafter started my Etsy store.
Living in Beautiful British Columbia has had an impact on my embroidery as I now find inspiration from my new surroundings. Recently I have been using flowers, birds, mountains and lakes from my local area in my work. I hope you find my work enjoyable.
